Summer 2014 Trends

It's that time of the year again in which I discuss various fashion trends of the current season! Is it just me, or did spring last an awfully short amount of time? I haven't even gotten around to wearing all of my spring clothes! Anyway, here are three summer trends that I've been loving this year.

High Neck/Halter Crop Tops

The halterneck style is making its way back from the 90s − only a bit more enhanced in cropped form, better patterns, and a wider variety of styles to suit our generation's sense of fashion. What I really like about this trend is that it has the perfect balance of modesty and tastefulness. The high neckline completely covers up the chest area, which is a nice break from risqué clothing, while it also accentuates a very understated yet tasteful feature of the female body − the shoulders. Brandy Melville currently carries a vast assortment of stylish halter tops for surprisingly affordable prices.

"Pajama Shorts"

If I'm not mistaken, I believe this unique trend can be credited solely to our generation, so I find that quite fascinating because most trends are typically mere recreations of past styles. I'm not sure if there's actually a proper universal term for it, so I'm just gonna call them pajama shorts. They almost look like super short skirts because of the loose fit, but what I think makes them so coveted is the incredible comfort they provide, hence the reference to "pajamas." Just like everything else in today's fashion, these shorts come in a plethora of styles and patterns ranging from floral and tribal to simple, plain colors.

Off-the-Shoulder Tops & Dresses

Here's my personal favorite. I've always been drawn to off-shoulder pieces because I love how they perfectly highlight the décolletage, which I think brings a very delicate, feminine feature rather than revealing. The shapeless fit also adds a simple and effortless touch, which I find very flattering on my petite frame. I also love the hippie-chic inspiration behind it because y'all know how much I appreciate vintage and bohemian fashion. I just absolutely adore this style that I really can't get enough of these pieces in my closet. I already have two of the same off-shoulder dress because I love them so much! If you're just as into this trend as I am, some stores that sell these stunning tops and dresses are Tobi, Forever 21, Urban Outfitters, Free People, or any vintage boutiques.

I hope you enjoyed this post, and please feel free to share some of the summer trends you've been spotting this year. I'd love to hear about them and maybe even try some out! Thanks for reading, and I'll catch you on my next one!
